December Daily update-talking myself off the ledge

Assembling my December Daily did NOT go as I had planned.  I kind of freaked out when I opened the package the week before & realized there wasn't going to be enough room in the pre-loaded pages to do 2 pages for each day in the month like I have in years past & there is no way to load more pages. I took it on our Thanksgiving weekend away anyway, with a few supplies hoping to figure something out.  I did. I was able to follow most of the instructions, the good thing about projects like this, nothing is right or wrong so I just did what I wanted to; decorated the cover, put the pre-cut squares in the coin pocket pages, & laid the rest out to look at. I didn't end up sticking anything else down at the time but at least I have checked it all out & have an idea of what to do as far as what pictures to take & sizes to print, what to collect, etc. Sometimes limited options are a good thing but this had kind of put me into a tailspin. Ali may have read my mind when she posted this,
  • "On the other hand, the limits might help you. You can definitely use the structure to MAKE CHOICES about what to include in your album. I always leave something out - I choose what to include - and I'm okay with that. As I work with my photos I do pick and choose, being mindful of the overall story of the week. Limits can be a positive thing as long as you don't spend too long agonizing over which photos to use to tell these stories. "
I really needed to hear that from someone else!

Since I have felt so limited on space, I haven't taken a single picture yet & I am writing this on the 5th.  By the time it posts, I will have appropriately photographed the weekend.  I have to remember that there will be 12x12 pages scrapped for anything not included in this mini, I am just used to it being the other way around, in that the mini is the bulk of December scrapping & the 12x12s are just to 'cover' the holidays in the big book.

Looking ahead:

  •  I did get my poinsettia last night, so when I take the plastic off of it, I will do some shots of it w/the big camera
  • getting my van back from the shop-normally that would go in, but not sure about it in the limited space
  • Having our girls' shopping day tomorrow, so I should get some phone pics there.
  • celebrating a birthday tomorrow evening
  • in 2 weeks I want to get pics of the couple I volunteer with for food coop
  • my family is doing our gathering on the 20th
  • not sure when Tim's side is
  • there should be a couple or 3 school programs coming up
  • if the box from amazon is as big as I think it might be, maybe a shot & story about that
  • snow, if we get more
  • ornament making, redbox movie renting, crafting with the kids during Christmas break
  • if I go past 25th, document how I took the leap to took the Fridays following the holidays off this year
  • cards received & sent -I really need to get on the ball
  • new Christmas movie added to the collection
  • document the few decorations used this year
So, I have plenty to document & yet not too much for the pages available, it will all work out, I just may not go with one of these albums again next year ;)

Next week, I plan to have something of my own to share with you.

How are you documenting your holidays?

Scrap Space

Over Thanksgiving weekend, we headed out of town. Traded the busy hub-bub of town for a quiet, star filled time at the cabin again.  I had packed more than enough -as always- supplies to keep me busy for the weekend.  I took my December Daily to put together but ended up doing very little of that, just couldn't imagine having it all decorated & then needing to try to move something to fit a page together... anyway, so I did a bit of that on Thursday evening when we settled in.  Friday evening, I scrapped on a party bus trip we took that I 'finished', on Saturday late afternoon. When I went to unpack on Sunday at home, I got back into it & decided to really finish those 6 pages, so they could go in the closet & that is exactly where they landed at 4pm on Sunday.  Now, on to one of the weddings for that summer. (we had 3)

Anyway... here's a shot of my weekend work space:

After this weekend it is confirmed I will never wish for a bench to sit on to scrap, but it was a perfectly acceptable space for the weekend.  We even got to experiment with me scrapping in the same room as he watches t.v. which is what I am envisioning for our next home. We didn't do too bad for being way closer together than I imagine in a house.

Done & Documented: August

When I look at this in collage form, this makes me giddy! These are all the pages I completed in August! This also completes Labor Day 2009 AND THAT completes 2009!! I cannot say that about any other year. Scrapping is such a  funny hobby. I love to get chapters completed but don't ever want to be caught up! Being caught up would mean that I had nothing left to scrap & I don't ever want to feel like that. I do however feel comfortable that that will never be an issue for me :)

I do plan to make some changes in how much I scrap for each chapter.  I have slowly come around to the idea of not needing to scrap every single printed picture & even find pleasure in handing off 'extras' to those either in the photos or someone else related that wants it for a project, scrapping or just to have a photo of them. :)   I never thought of storage of these many huge albums for each year NOR where they would go when I am gone since we don't have anyone to hand anything down to.  I like to think that the nieces & nephews might want the pages of their families as they are of them growing up at many family events & that if there is anyone left in our lake family that they or their kids might want those ... but those thoughts are getting pushed out as I am just going to continue to enjoy creating & to heck w/what's going on after I am gone ;) (thanks Tiffany & Tracie @ ScrapGals podcast for even making me think about it. :))  I am going to have to cut back on what is put into albums as there is no way we will ever have space to store 8 12x12 albums holding 45 sheets each, making them about 5" thick EACH. FOR.EACH.YEAR. lol SO, my plan is to try to cut it down to one lake album & 2 family albums for each year from here on out.... wish me luck ;)

here are some of my faves from the month.

these first 2 are high on my list. I love that I was finally able to use this gorgeous fishy paper that I have had forever, that I was able to couple it with the plastic fish buttons I have also had forever and that I was able to document a great moment.  Those twine knots are also one of my favorite things I've done this month.

This pink & black page is pretty & I don't often pull off a pretty lake page.  I got to use the old calendar page, and new 'people' paper, washi tape & brads. So fun!!

This one was another one where I got to use some old stuff that's been laying around on my desk combined with some new goodies.  the chipboard arrows are dwindling down in my stash & I am sad about that (better pick up another pack soon) but I have what seems like an endless supply of flowers :)

This is one of my simpler pages & I am glad I kept it that way.  This 8x10 is one of my favorites, I even considered framing it instead of scrapping it but as you can see, its scrapped! this is pink vellum on black cardstock w/a scrap strip of some tan French love in script on cream background slipped in for grounding. Thickers, cricut cuts & little letter stickers with a clock, ribbon & twine for the title corner, then under the smaller photos that are slipped int a flip flap is the tiny bit of journaling about how I love capturing a great reflecting sunset on the water.  Now, to get sleeves to get them into & then into albums! Then, on to a new year!

you can see my January, FebruaryMarchAprilMayJune, & July  reports here.

Work Space Wednesday

YAY!!!!!! I finally got one taken & posted on the right day!!!
here are some photos of my current work space. To say I am ready to do be done with this project is MORE THAN FAIR.

  •  Yes I use (unused, clean) pizza boxes for my scrap paper storage & transportation.
  • Yes, I am horrible about keeping my things sorted as I work on a project.
  • Yes, I am ready to call my December Daily book complete! Saturday will be the final day YAY!!!

So tell me, when you work on a project, any project, are you a messy worker? does your space get worse before it gets better? do you end w/a bigger mess than when you started? if not, I am jealous. :)

Done & Documented

I started my DD (my D&D project) a few weeks ago while scrapping w/a friend but had forgotten the past years' books so I was a bit lost on my format as I want them all to be closely similar, so I struggled to get much done past start. :) I then got sick late that next week & recovered over the weekend so my bags were still packed for the next weekend's crop w/my aunt & her friends! 1 full day & another half. I was pumped to get this project rolling! & roll I did!  I got up to day 6 complete (w/the exception of one page needing hinges I didn't take with me.  here are some photos of the process.
looking really close, we can see that I was able to get all 6 in our group in one timer shot-YAY! even if there is WAY TOO MUCH CEILING. ;)

& here is my project in process for Day 5 (I think)

December Daily update

Dec 1 will have no photos to include as my 2 month old good camera decided not to work :( BUT I attended my first Relay for Life mini-Summit in Des Moines & scrapped w/family & friends in the afternoon/evening! so probably just memorabilia
Dec 2 will be photo less unless I fudge & use a Christmas picture of my mother in law we took out to lunch for her Monday birthday. w/the business card I picked up from the restaurant.
<~~~ Dec 3 I attended one of many Christmas programs in the evening (ignore the date on the photo, its set wrong) after Tim brought home an early gift, a PUPPY!!!!! her name was Dora but we changed it to Kora. :) LOVE HER!!!! ~~~>

Dec 4 will probably center around Kora's first day in childcare
Dec 5 will probably be about Kora & Sammy bonding(photo on right) & Honey (the cat) resisting at all cost ;)  & maybe some mention (& receipts) that today is the day I sent my camera to TX for repair.

NOW! to get my body in there (between potty trips for Kora) & get some pages scrapped!

finished

Complete is not something I get to say very often about a project!  I am almost a master of planning, starting & even getting almost finished then either getting distracted by something new & fun or I get stuck by it not going as easily, or quickly as I had planned so I just quit.  I cannot tell you how many projects I have started & laying in progress around my scraproom, there are even a few in different rooms around the house.  But Anyway! I did finish the hog hunt mini album right before Labor Day, that I started early in July!  I think I might enter it in the Iowa State Fair embellishment catagory next year... It was so fun to do, I love the opportunity to get out of my 12x12 page, acid free, relatively flat, photo friendly 'rut' & go 'no holds barred' once in a while!
So, Yea, this is my idea of getting wild & crazy in the scrap room ;)   I took an old Iowa map & cut circles for page covers for part of the traveling pages.  that was new & different for me. & it coordinated really well w/the (fuzzy) picture of the garmin & the photo of the toll stub (there is a toll receipt behing the flap).

Here is a side view of the entire completed album! I love that it won't close, had different size & shapes of pages & even some tabs on some!

I received this mini album in a box of stuff from a friend when she was decluttering her scrap room.  I put it in a basket of other mini albums I have collected to some day complete & when I started thinking about creating a mini for this trip, this one came to mind immediately.  I think its the perfect masculine texture & color for such photos!

consistency

oh consistency, why can't we seem to get along these days?  LOL  I go all gung-ho on the blog for a week or 2 & then I go MIA for the next 2... oops.  My apologies!

This past weekend was not as planned but one of those dreamy terrifically balanced between productivity & relaxation.

Friday night we had planned to go out but decided to just stay home & make due with what was in the fridge & cupboards & thanks to my recent couponing, there was plenty to chose from.  Saturday I had the pleasure of coffee & brunch w/a high school friend. Ab-so-lutely just what the doctor ordered! always a good time. great conversation, relaxation, wonderful coffee, no expectations. From there I met Tim for impromptu lunch out @ our local Mexican restaurant & then I went grocery shopping.  the rest of the day was wonderfully relaxing @ home! We watched a couple of movies-which we have decided we are really hard to please in this department because we are rarely as impressed as the 'reviews'. That said, The Sitter was an updated version of Adventures in Babysitting from our era, in my opinion & the Tooth Fairy 2 that was supposed to be hilarious was cute. Neither of them *I* think are child appropriate DEFINITELY not The Sitter but Tooth Fairy 2 might be OK for the older ones..  Sunday morning we woke to the sound of one of the neighbors mowing.  thinking for sure I had slept in a bit I rolled over to see the clock say only 8:15.  WHAT THE WHAT?! ugh.  Quickly realizing I couldn't fight it,  I attacked the kitchen, dining & living rooms while Tim was mowing the other property & cutting up some chunks of apple wood for smoking our prime rib roast for supper.  I was pretty proud of the amount of work I was able to accomplish w/some serious tunes in such a short amount of time! Isn't that how it always goes tho? things we put off because we dont' have time right now, end up taking next to no time to complete.  So when I was happy with my completion, I rewarded myself w/some scrapping time!   I worked the rest of the day & evening on a 2 page spread about 5 of my cousins.  Seems that scrapping photos of family members has taken on a whole new meaning to me since we lost my brother in December.  I am now a lot more worried about keeping the pages about the photos & less about the decoration, more about the heart felt journaling & message than the clever title & its all in general a lot more important to me now.   (GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA frustrated scream - cannot get a photo of a layout to load & move to this spot)

My favorite parts? brunch out w/a girl friend, our predictable smoked Sunday meal & reserved Sunday Scrapping time.  How was your weekend? tell me your 3 favorite things!

5 on Friday

today: scrapbooking/memory keeping goodies :)

1. Last week I read This post from Ali & fell in love! Then I found out there is a discount thru the end of August here! My only problem is deciding what to order one for :)

2. I started & have continued w/Creative Memories albums, pages & tape runner.  I use other brands but these are my go to staples.

3.  I currently have this trimmer (only mine is the old mint green) but am drooling over this one.

4. To keep my memorabelia collected in one spot, I hang one of my cloth shopping bags on the doornob to my scrap room & just drop stuff in when it makes it home w/me.

5. Crops! Oh the crops!!  I am currently gearing up for this year's Scrap Pink. Am actively taking registrations as well as donations for prizes. As well as planning to attend several other fundraisers over the next 6 months!

what's your hobby? do you have 5 tips or favorites to share?

4 on Friday the 4th

1. The local dime store has their fabric on sale tomorrow .. 60% off! I am going to buy my kitchen curtain fabrics. I have no idea of a pattern, or the amount of fabric to get but I am just going to wing it & make do :) I can do that, right?!
ok, so I would love something like this, only less colorful.

and will probably end up w/something like this in different colors/patterns, wish me luck.
ALL HELP & SUGGESTIONS WELCOME!! :)

2. That leads to the repair of my sewing machine cord that was partially chewed through by Sammy in the early days. Which we really can't complain about b/c he's only chewed up 3 important things, all being cords, & not getting entirely through any of them.

3. With a messed up week I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO thankful its Friday!!  Monday the kids went all day even tho we started to get our blizzard, Tuesday & Wednesday they were out, yesterday they had a 2 hour delay & today back to normal. This is all fine & good but the littles are ALLLLL messed up not knowing who will be here on what days. TOday was icky grouchy crazy day & they sucked me in no matter what I did & how hard I tried to fight it! BLECK. early lunch, early nap *silence*

4. Scrapping!! I am so excited to be having company tomorrow morning to scrap! Scrapping is a therapy to me & I am happy to share it w/others that may also benefit from it. As well as get their child's books caught up :)

What are your weekend plans? anything exciting?

Getting back...

Getting back to scrapping, that is.  I go in spurts. I love it & use all of my free time doing it, then I take a break, the longest break was a year. It took painting & moving into a smaller room to get back into it that time.  This time, I've just struggled juggling scrapping w/running this fall & now winter.  Winter is usually my big scrappy season but not so much this year.  When I am not into it, I think its mostly because I have gotten caught up in the details instead of 'just doing it'.  Gotten caught up in trying to make my pages look like those out & about on the internet, scrap sites, blogs & in magazines & I am not that kind of scrapper. I am not one of the scrappers that puts alot of detail on a page, I could journal & fill it or use printed paper, die cuts or other themed embellishments but not alot of 'unrelated' items on my pages.  I love to look @ those pretty pages, I just can't create them. :)

So I was so glad when I came across this blog shortly after adopting 'SIMPLIFY' as my word for the year.  Finallly, a site that prided itself on simple pages, made me feel like I belonged somewhere! :)  I am less than a month into following & am so loving all the inspiration I have received! definately one I look fwd to in my reader!!

Right now, they are having an amazing give away for a full year of freebies! Hurry over & check it out!! it might be just what you need to get moving on your pages too!

mix & match links

I have a lot on my mind & heart, a lot of great posts read in the past couple of days & instead of not doing them justice, I am listing them w/ links, here, now.

  • The first: THIS amazing selfless mama
  • Next: we had a virtual 5k today @ the 'hood in honor of our sisters & Dr. Mo running half & full marathons this weekend.  I participated -there's me in the middle-allllllllll bundled up for our 8 degree run this morning.
  • I am super excited to have found a fun site that focuses on simple scrapping! Time to return to my simple scrapping 'roots'. I love to look @ others' detailed pages that are full of elements but I can never get that style right.
  • Edited to add: the new widget to the right! check it out! Gabe's Gifts, AMAZING project!!
ok so this is not everything I've been wanting to post about but its enough for tonight :)
  Have a great weekend!!

Simplify

I must report that this Simplified year is going well already!  I am letting go of unnecessary details, unnecessary stress, & unnecessary worries.  I am loving the Simplified way of thinking already!  I have reallly used it more than I thought in just 3 days.

Scrapping-I am back to Simply getting them scrapped, not over doing the details, no putting thos unnecessary, unrelated items on the page just b/c they are pretty.

Cooking-Simple foods. Getting further from the boxes & cans & using Simple foods to cook, bake & nurish the bodies I cook for.

Clutter-OYE! I have been able to bless 3 other homes w/multiple items each from our home THIS WEEK! just things I had stored or on hand 'just in case' & never used them, so they are on to their next home.

Dishes-Simply do it. Simply unload the dishwasher while waiting on something in the microwave or on the stove top, Simply reload the dishwasher when you take a dirty dish to the sink, Simply do it NOW.

Laundry-This will take some time as I hope to par down my closet & drawers ALOT this year.  I am starting a stack for various artists to upcycle tshirts into various things, I thought I'd make a tshirt quilt but do we really need another blanket? I am getting rid of 3 this week that have been stored in totes for over a year... LOL I wear the same 5 top sets(I layer) to work in so why are there 10 in the drawer? Cross Ministries, I plan to make my first drop off  of the year, the morning of the 29th!

Worries-I had a head start on this from my 'appreciate' year in 08 but I plan to continue & grow on this in '11.  I plan to make a point not to worry about things I cannot control, I can better use that energy to run, or clean or organize. Simply enjoy the here & now, or sit out a situation until it heals itself, as most do.  What will be will be.

Running-Simply get out there & do it! Relax & Run. Enjoy the company, enjoy the energy, Simply live it. Quit worrying about what if the group falls apart, what if I let them down, what if there becomes drama.. not that I have worried, just fleeting thoughts.

Cleaning-Simple homemade products are on my list to explore this year.

How are you coming along w/your OLW?

Yesterday, I captured mom's old house, our shadows while walking, the 3 littles picking flower petals off the sidewalk 'for me', B watching, afternoon paperwork & snack @ the picnic table :D me reading Breaking Dawn(almost done :)) the mushrooms Tim found yesterday.

Today is the last day of WITL!!! wow this week has gone fast for that project! next I will need to get it into a book form! that may take a bit longer. I AM almost done w/Tim's surprise birthday chapter. its raining today so the photos may be a bit different-more tasks, less fun.

Weigh In Wednesday..

WOW! I don't usually have RESULTS but this week I DO. & before I say numbers I will mention that ALL I CHANGED was increasing my water to 96oz/daily & cutting junk snacking. I haven't added any movement at all. NOW. the NUMBERS. I weighed in @ my heaviest ever on Monday 1/11/10 @ the dr office. it was truely an eye opening experience for me & very easily could have thrown me into a bout of deep depression had I chosen that avenue. but this time I proudly chose to DO something! (word of the year DO) YAY KIM!! by Saturday I was down 4# & today I am down another 4#. NOW I am not all giddy & excited thinking its a serious weightloss. I know its just water but for the scale to show A LOSS, I am happy :) just the boost I need to keep up on the water, lack of snacking & get some movement plan in place!

ok.. off to enjoy the ice/snow day we are having that ended up giving me the afternoon off :) Scraproom time!
