One little word

ahhhhh its that time again!! time to pick a word for the year. .. last year I used FOCUS to help me to try to quit w/the big picture all the time & be able to slow down some. be able to FOCUS on my love for the camera-being behind it of course lol- FOCUS on the joys of the new house- FOCUS on each season, each day, each quiet moment *sigh* it was a great start for me :) I printed the word+its definition & hung it in my then-scraproom & used the new cricut Tim had just gotten me for Christmas to cut the letters out & decorated them & hung them on the same wall in view of my desk. I even did a layout or 2 FOCUSing on my word!

this year I am picking APPRECIATE as my word. As much as I encourage others I struggle w/it myself at times. as cold as it is outside & chilly in the basement, I should remind myself to APPRECIATE the lower heating bill in this house vs. the old ($500/month LESS), as hectic as the lunch shift is here, I need to APPRECIATE all those little mouths I feed b/c they pay my bills & keep me in business, as much as I hate getting up early I need to APPRECIATE those families that respect me & my business enough to keep a good schedule & routine, as much as I complain about the 'old' technology I have and use daily I need to APPRECIATE the fact that I have IT, as unhappy as I am w/my body I need to APPRECIATE that it does fall w/in the 'normal' limits on those stupid charts *blah* I could go on but I won't.. maybe I'll save that for a day I have nothing else to post about... what I need to work on APPRECIATEing :)

well our plans for this evening have crashed :( Tim is staying home in bed -hoping to move his chiro appt to today instead of waiting till Friday. either way it means we stay home as we are both huge believers in 'too sick to work too sick to play'. I am bummed but nothing I can do about it now.


so I banked 22 minutes into the wii fit last night :) my calves feel much better today LOL I also retook the wii fit body age test & it dropped from 39-26 since the 26th :) whohoooo not taking the wii age test for a while.. that result of 69 didNOT do a thing for my ego LOL I did unlock a new balance game-sheesh they get harder!!! and a new strength training but I can't do any of them yet.

officially our weekend is sticking close to home. I am not making any definate plans besides my chiro appt & a visit to the library.

*Tim is sick :( fighting the flu we think- but he made himself go to work today-last night was not cool
*I did a little grocery stocking up on last night :) love that feeling!!
*we had mcdonalds for supper! I splurged & had a Mac.. wow its been a long time LOL
*I worked a bit in my December Daily. wow it was not a daily thing for me :( maybe next year I'll consider it a weekly instead
*disgustingly addicted to Momma's boys!!! what a sad show & I am even sadder to be watching
*only 4 littles so far today! rock on!
*was hard to get up & go today but I did it.. only one more day this week
*NYE party @ Katie & Tommy's! WHOHOOOOOOOOO making+taking my bread dip yumm
*the christmas sweets are almost gone YAY!
*I skipped Wii Fit last night :( but my calves are still screaming LOL

ok I am getting over the photo loss... more like accepting it I suppose.. the tree is striped of its ornaments, planning to have it completly down soon! the rest of the decorations will be packed away to be hauled back to the garage by the end of the weekend too! ready to roll into the new year w/o all the packing to do. :) need to catch up on my December Daily book soon ..

planning to visit MIL tonight & get her photos on my computer, darts tomorrow night, NYE celebrating of some kind Wed, recovery Thursday (or hair of the dog party @ Janes) & I would like to shop around our local square that I never take time to do. there are several new shops & such I would really like to visit. sometime over the long weekend we'd like tohang sheetrock over the new insulation in the basement too.

we have hit the ground running this morning.. so far I have 8 kiddos & should only get one more. nice for a Monday! :)

the aftermath...

LOVED the majority of the long weekend!! the sleeping in kicked a$$! being w/family was pretty awesome too :)

NOW if ONLY I Had more than 6 of my own photos to show for it... long story short--hopefully for your sake. during the pre-gift photo shoot @ my mom's Christmas evening my camera threw up a 'card needs formatted' error... WHAT THE HE&&?? so I take the card out, turn camera off, take battery out & reinsert everything .. same result.. starting to freak out.. traded cards w/mom got no issues w/hers but her cam threw up the same message BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH nooooooooooooooooooo so I threw a bit of tantrum refusing to use anyone else's camera, insisting the opening go on while I chilled myself out & recovered... keep in mind that card has the Christmas eve photos from Sarah's where we all tried to help the boys build gingerbread houses & opened gifts AND Christmas day at MIL's where all 6 siblings agreeably took group shots AND all the pre-gift photos I had taken at my mom's.. 300+ in all .. inaccessible! :( whaaaaaaaaa

when we got home I emailed transcend.com (name on the card), tossed & turned all night barely slept during the night then slept till 11 on Friday LOL while talking to Kodak & then later on hold w/lexar I cleaned house. all upstairs rooms picked up, living & dining rooms vac'd, dining room shampooed even. Laundry sorted & even started. went online when I couldn't get a real live voice on the phone & bought their recommended image recovery program 3.0 only for it to not be able to find the card inserted into the computer EITHER. so I resigned to them being lost. went out to drinks w/Jeff & Bethany later to drown my sorrows.. I think Tim was happy someone got me to shower & put real clothes on instead of my flannels I had depressingly hung out in all day LOL

Saturday I called Christian Photo in Des Moines, to my surprise found their hours odd.. 10-5 on Saturday rather than the traditional & popular 8-noon Saturday hours. The guy I talked to said they'd try to recover it & if they were able it was $40 & if not it was free. So off we went!!! dropped it off along w/the house burn tapes to be made to DVDs finally & a shopping we went.

we used a GC to O'Charley's YUMMMM for lunch, I got some sale goodies @ Archivers, wandered around a Walmart & a Best Buy, checked out a kitten in a pet store, then on our way to Target I called to check only to find out that they were able to recover SIX IMAGES *sigh* so no charge but *sigh* 6 of 300 is NOT good odds.. granted if they are 2 from each gathering I'll be happy but I am sad to have lost the other 294 *sigh* sad ... so sad... since we are going back up in the next 2 weeks to get the tapes/DVDs I had them just put them in that bundle & we'd get it all @ the same time *sigh* so sad. on the phone shortly there after to get the other photographers to get their photos online for me to see SOON PLEASE.

Any answer was better than none at that point so I was over it .. sorta .. as much as I could be I suppose! so across town we fly to capture the all elusive Wii game 'Cabela's Legendary Adventures' that I couldn't for-the-life-of-me track down BEFORE Christmas. OYE . he got it & its HARD lol figures

today I finally put a different card in & started using my camera again. I will never go w/o saving photos from card again! ever. arg!

other than that I think we did pretty good this year... we used our money from MIL toward 2 new tires on the van :), tim used his cash for the game, I used mine for bits & pieces here & there thru the day, we have brownie mix to use(like a mix-in-a-jar), a shopping gc, 2 restaurant gcs, Wii Fit & multi-game accessory pack, and of course the traditional candy, peanuts, scarf, candle, and cash :) I still owe Gpa his gc b/c I totally forgot to get it LOL MY bad!!!!

back to work tomorrow.. *sigh* but at least its just another 3 day week :) yay!!

Merry Christmas!!

I am so officially ready for Christmas!! the cookies are baked, the presents are wrapped, the cards are out (minus the 4 that need new addresses) and the scrapbook is done!! so when I get a second today I'll just run up & throw protectors on the pages, put cookies on plates & snap pics of the tree w/the gifts around it then I can start sorting gifts into piles -tonight-tomorrow afternoon-tomorrow night. YAY!!!!!!! 4 whole days w/NO alarm clock YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SOOOOOOOOOO looking fwd to THAT!!! (I am so lazy LOL)

last night I did one more trip to walmart for baking goods.. then came home to mix up the snowball dough for chilling & clean the kitchen then hit my room for a 2 hour scrap marathon working on the boys' book some more. ALMOST DONE! I could use one more evening but alas I don't have it so i will crunch it all in tonight I promise!!

today: bake snow balls-cool-roll in pwdr sugar--DONE, bake chocolate cookies for dipping in crushed mints @ gatherings, make no-bake fudge--DONE

tonight: make buckeye bars, mix up cinn roll dough for chilling(UMMMMMMM Maybe not... didn't read that I needed 8 cups of flour!!!), finish boys' book

tomorrow: warm cinn roll dough & cut, make spicy Molassess cookies, make cookie plates, deliver one to neighbors, pack to go to Sarah's

IF I can squeeze in time I'd like to make spritz coookies LOL

either way we were OUT this weekend after the ice on Friday!! We got our gift purchases completed, & then mostly wrapped-had a good breakfast & lunch out together, and yesterday I completed the Christmas cards! now to get more stamps.. yup I realize they will be received late but better late than never sometimes. :)



this week I plan to bake a little each day & evening so I can return a plate of goodies to a neighbor family that delivered a bucketful on Saturday & split the rest between the 3 places we are going for Christmas.

weekend update:

Tim spent the day on the couch & was restless this evening so we ran out to walmart to get my mom's sewing machine (I hate the idea of giving a gift of this caliber from walmart but atleast she can return it if its not right or what she wants) and my middle brother's(&his wife) microwave from us & my other brother (&girlfriend) so 2 more gifts checked off!!!

tomorrow we head to DM for Kyler, Carson, and each other's gifts. hoping for a quick trip as I have some scrappy gifts to get kickin' on! (hey why aren't I working on them now??? lol)

then Sunday Tim is working to make up for missing today for the ice so I will be spending the day either shopping w/mom or scrappy gift making.

I hate last minute gift wrangling!!!!

not so bad

we did get the 3/4" of ice + 2" of snow on top but so far the winds are holding off so we have power! I got to sleep in a bit (less than an hour) but sleep in no less :)

so far I only have 3 kids in the same family that will at the latest be picked up @2:45 ...early day!! So w/some cooperation we will make cookies this morning.

ETA: no cookies baked.. instead we played w/ELFYourself all morning LOL did get another child that will be here till 5 so no early day but atleast a light one :)

so far.

its sleeting tons out there in just a little bit of time. nothing @5:15 & covered surfaces by 7. ask me how I know.. LOL Tim went to the store for me this afternoon for bits & pieces to complete a meal tomorrow w/o power (& a few baking supplies incase I do have power hehe) but since I didn't have ice melt on teh list he didn't get any. so @7 we treked out to get some.. its a ghost town out there batman!!! it was actually pretty fun -not to slippery @15 mph, or under foot but we had the most issue getting it off the van windows to go to begin w/. so we are home 60#of ice melt, 2 kinds of ice cream, a frappucino & diet. mt. dew heavier but warmer by far.

I really don't think its going to be as bad as the school system is planning. sure they'll not have school tomorrow but surely by Monday & Tuesday they'll be able to go back & finish their Christmas celebrating & start Break like planned on Wednesday. I suppose only time will tell tho. I will for sure sleep well no matter. :)

there is a chance we may lose electricity tonight due to the 1/4-3/4 inch of ice they are predicting for the area LOVELY. I operated last year w/none so I am sure I will tomorrow too. just don't get too alarmed if I am not online as I don't know if my battery power will last for a blog post + a possible movie for nap time LOL (priorities ya'know)

Jo brought up something I had noticed & heard but really just let it roll off my back (like alot of things that could irritate, annoy, or sadden me--protective barrier?). WHAT is W/people blaming their lack of holiday spirit on the 'economy'??? paleeeeeeeeeeeease!! haven't we blamed enough on the 'economy'?? Jo put it well when she said, "I believe that Christmas is in your heart. We don't need all the fanfare to make Christmas, well... Christmas." I couldn't word it better myself! thanks JO!

And Donna mentioned in an email conversation the other day that maybe this 'economy crunch' is SOMEONE telling us to get our focus off the commercializing & back to the true meaning of it all and get back to appreciating friends, family & food for what it is.

WELLLLLL... Tim just called & in addition to our school getting out @12:30, preschools being closed, he's been instructed to leave work no later than 1. the good thing is that he is willing to do my grocery store run for me when he gets here instead of me having to wait until after 5! So I must make a list lol. ALSO we discussed the generator & the fact that I still have the stickie note that I wrote the wiring down to attach the generator to the furnace if need be. I am much more prepared this year than last.

Last year's power outage TOTALLY snuck up on me!! woke up to a cc dad calling from the corner, no power=no alarm clock, power just long enough to fix/serve/eat breakfast w/lights then it went back out until after we had the furnace & generator wired @5 :) we had 7 or 9 children & they were SO GOOD for not having lights, tv & being stuck inside due to the ice making the trees fall apart. atleast I have a gas stove & water heater in the cc so I was still able to cook & had hot water.. I washed dishes alot to keep my hands warm LOL it definately was an eye opener for all of us. I had candles lit thru the house & maybe that encouraged the soft mood... who knows... maybe they understood to an extent the extreme of the situation. either way it was a good day compared to how miserable it could have been & was for some in the rural areas around us w/o power for up to 10 days! YIKES!!! my 11 hours is nothing compared to that!! :)

ok.. enough rambling.. off to make a shopping list.

6. curb side recycling WHOHOOOOOOOOO downsized the trash can to pay the added fee for it & don't have to go to the dumpster in town near as often (just to dump glass jars)

7. hearing that most people are taking a lighter approach to Christmas this year.
8. the kids asking to listen to Christmas music --after we've jammed to the Wiggles of course;)
9. finding new bloggers thru links on current favorite blogs
10. the feeling of accomplishment of having almost all gifts bought!

HUMP DAY...

calm b4 the storm ... tomorrow afternoon & overnight look to be dangerous! 1/2 inch of ice + 4" of snow for our area YIKES... friday might not be productive!! but I will welcome the day off :) doesn't everyone once in a while???

I got to check a movie off of my december list last night :) Tim took John as his dart partner so I stayed home (had a cancelled class) & watched White Christmas while I cleaned the kitchen. I love love love that he cooks & bakes but I wish he'd be better about cleaning up his mess!! ;) oh well... babysteps I suppose.

other than that I have nothing exciting to talk about so how about some photos from yesterday???

brrrrrrrrrr Tuesday

so the cars are registering 3 degrees today instead of 1 so I guess its warmer LOL I do believe it feels a ton warmer since the wind isn't whipping today YAY!! silver lining!! and atleast now if it needs to it can snow. the kids are so hoping for an early out today.

last night was a bust... I cracked my knee cap on the doorway to the stairs running up last night & thought for SURE it was broken but alas not even a bruise or surface swelling yet this mornign just some seriously sore bendy parts :( it was one of those that I thought I was going to puke it hurt so bad.. but I limped on up & out to get pizza & back then napped on the couch for 2 hrs (to help it heal of course--nothing at all to do w/the fact that it was a cold monday evening!!! sheesh) then when I woke up it was SORE & stiff but atleast not broken. then I just chilled on the couch w/a cup o hot cocoa watching a REPO marathon w/Tim.

so far this morning we have run the oven (to bake sausage patties for breakfast) & have laundry + dishes washing. Planning to get some shredding done, cardboard broken down & milk jugs smashed for recycling on Friday. I should find an easy craft using toilet paper tubes for the kids to do in the next week for their parents. or maybe I'll just bake & cut out cookies for them to decorate & take home.. hmmmmmmm thinking thinking thinking.

OH Tim fixed the train under the tree last night!! whohooo go Tim. Maybe I'll wrap some gifts tonight or tomorrow .... here's a collage I did for my December Daily book... totally digging the collage option in Picassa!!!!

a frigid monday!

holy cow its cold!!!! thankful for my at home job today!!!!!!

the weekend was busy & productive :)


Friday night took jeff's family pics--next time taking my tripod! (thanks JO for the edit!!). then home to grumpy Tim so chilled out all night.
Saturday went to help Mom move in the AM, then home to cuban sandwiches Tim had fixed YUMMMMMM then we ran out to fareway for groceries & home to chill out again. I put the train under the tree (its wrong & it wont run LOL but its there ) & by evening we were both stir crazy grumpy so we got dressed up -ish & went to Plain Jane's where we have our GC still from Halloween & had 3 drinks each & home to bed.
Sunday slept in :) then we worked together on getting the weight room cleaned out-- scrap stuff into my room, garbage out, desk chair to basement, etc. then he rearranged to b e able to USE the bowflex & ab lounge & I moved all totes from hallway to weight room. so its all nice & organized again.. I scrapped in my December Daily book :) got the 1st & 6th & printed pics for several other days :)

so sorry Friday!!

this morning was a bit harried..l but better now.

for breakfast we had fried eggs, sausage & bagels so I didn't get online then. After I just was online long enough to check emails then back off to play, feed itty bitties & dance the cha cha slide :) then we picked up & they got to vac WHOHOOOOOOOOOO clean playroom on FRIDAY rock ON!!! for lunch we had turkey+cheese on hamburger buns, cantalope, pineapple, corn & broccoli.. cleaned out the fridge :)) so here I am, the middles are napping, the itty bitties are chillin' & the bigs should be here in a few hours.

SOOOOO LOOKING FWD TO THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!!
have a family shoot tonight, then moving mom tomorrow morning, then aftenoon & all day sunday are MINE MINE MINE!!! I AM totally hoping to get done w/the christmas totes Tim drug in last night so they can go back out!!!

I am planning to not leave the house tonight! I am planning to decorate the tree & house tonight! I am planning a tension free evening w/my husband tonight! think that's too much to ask??? GOsh I sure hope not!

its crazy cold here again today! YUCK!! I hate the cold .. once I am cold I have a hard time warming up. ok enough whining Kim.. get to that Mountain Dew & get a move on ;)

sorry for the boring post today.. I did get up to the 30th done in my DECEMBER DAILY book last night but didnt' get ink for the printer to start printing photos for pages 1-11 LOL oh.. well.. time will come! :)

~replaced a ceiling tile that was falling (took the 2 off the top of it that were making it fall)
~brainstormed how to hang ornaments from the suspended basement ceiling like Becky
~folded last load of clothes from dryer & carried 2 baskets upstairs to hopefully get put away-tired of living out of baskets again
~danced the wiggles w/the kids :D
~decided I am driving myself tonight so I can do what I need to do FIRST then going to mom's -my little way of taking care of me FIRST this time (thanks for the nudge "u know who")
~settled a discrepentcy w/my last party order (that came yesterday-MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME :)
~evidently wore some kids out! the one waiting on trolley fell asleep, & ALL but ONE have PASSED out already!!!
~unwrapped chuck roast & put in roasting pan in fridge for tomorrow's lunch (adding mountain dew & beefy onion soup mix b4 quitting time)

that's what the kids are partying about so far ;) its pretty icey out & still sleeting. so far one mom is not going in. Tim just left 'at his own discression' so we'll see if he makes it or not. ETA: a second one just called in.

we got the insulation up last night-decided not to reuse the old stuff instead we bought R13 & put it up. the thermometer says its still 62-64 but its a different feel down here today.. all in my head??? maybe ;)

I also got my christmas eve pages done last night & started the Christmas Day set for my December Daily album :) progress!!!

Darts tonight -weather permitting.. honestly I wouldn't mind them cancelled so I can work on the house & the rest of the DD album :)

last night I put the tree up WHOHOOOOOOOOO In 2 part baby steps but its up!!!!! after I got all fall packed away, house picked up & dusted, Tim ran the vac & grilled steaks (yup we r grillin die hards:) a little snow doesn't stop us ;)) then I even squeeked in some scrappy time ( I think I did 3 pages for my December Daily album) during Grey's!

tonight looks a bit busy but should be fun :)

-cleaning up from supper then some scrap time :) for me

tomorrow afternoon is my cousin's wedding that we get to stay here for. Tim will be hunting so I will shopping LOL then Sunday will be spent shopping/hunting, & when I get home I plan to finish the decorating & get the totes put away. I vow to have them put away in under a week this year!!!

ok December & winter are officially here... when I woke this morning (finally woke up after hitting snooze for a good 45 minutes--MY BAD!!) I REALIZED the heated ceiling fan AND the furnace were running. that sounds nice & toasty & it was in the bedroom but it let me know it must be COLD outside if they are both working!! :( eek. but I had no choice, I had pushed it to the last available minute & had to get moving to prevent answering the door in my jammies!!! lol

I bought some slippers @ walmart last night.. I am such a slipper girl... haven't had any in this house yet so I got some & I will share a photo of them someday. (hopefully b4 they get all broken in)

we visited Celeste (MIL) last night for her bday. She has her brother & Sister in law visiting thru the weekend & I think they are all getting tired in general.. Poor Aunt Sharon & Uncle Herb.. they are AZ residents & this is about as much of a culture shock as you can get. :) they are coming to check out our new house this evening or tomorrow. (that means I need to get the finishing touches on the house keeping as soon as I get off work tonight!) it ws great to see Celeste getting her annual bday gifts-poinsettia from Uncle Jr, fresh flowers from Roy, we had to break the mold & give her 2 LOL she has wanted a new (energy star) dehumidifier since the energy audit said hers was using as much as her central air unit! so we got it AND finally paid the van off.. hate those bills that aren't really bills so they get pushed aside for the ones that have to be paid monthly! MY BAD!! but its done & officially really truely ours now ROCK ON !!! We were so hoping she'd be able to use the money from the van to fly to AZ w/them when they return but its not looking like she's well enough quite yet :(

whoops!!!

not sure where yesterday went but today is moving just as fast & frantic!!! the good news is that its hump day, & that means the weekend is 1/2 way here :) really looking fwd to the wedding this weekend. I need a bit of time in my room tonight to collect & jot down my thoughts for my december daily album pages for days 1-3 b4 they are but a fleeting memory!!! other than that we are hoping to clean house & maybe start decorating tonight after visiting MIL for her bday.

sorry the posts aren't exciting or even thought provoking this week but sometimes life is just that.. life.. right???

and the rest of the weekend...

I ended up scrapping till 4am Friday night!! too bad I have nothing but a mess to show for it LOL oh well it was definately theraputic!!! Saturday we bummed around alot reading my library book, hitting Indianola Walmart for some shopping-knocked some people off our shopping list!! got groceries when we got back to town & I ended up sick in the evening. between sickies I managed to make enchiladas & clean the kitchen tho so atleast its started for the cleaning session tonight getting it ready for a visit from out of town family.

Sunday we bummed around a bit, he went to the timber & I watched a movie, then he rearranged the garage to make snowblowing easier, & we went out for an early supper + brought home leftovers for tonight! then I worked on my December Daily pages while he watched tv.

I am still not ready for work today but here I am... we will tough it out. definately planning to clean house & start decorating tonight as tomorrow night is darts & wednesday I might be going to Mom's new house to help her unpack & set up her kitchen, Thursday we are hoping to do something w/Aunt Sharon & Uncle Herb b4 they head back to AZ as Friday night John is staying here to be ready to hunt early & Saturday I am heading out to my cousin's wedding in Dm after some craft show shopping. BUSY WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!
